The Province of Mary Immaculate was established in the year 1988.
Today, the Province has 214 sisters serving across the states of South Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The 23 communities of the Province are geographically present in 11 dioceses: Alleppey, Bangalore, Chinglepet, Kochi, Kannur, Kollam, Kumbakonam, Neyyattinkara, Ootty, Thanjavur, and Trivandrum.
All the branches of charity of the Canossian Family have taken deep root in the Province through the apostolic zeal, vision, and sacrifices of the pioneer sisters who first arrived on Indian soil in the Diocese of Kochi, Kerala. Over the past 32 years since the formation of the Province, great care has been taken to preserve and hand on the same spirit and charism to future generations.
The Province continues to extend Pastoral Health Care to the sick through its hospitals and dispensaries, with a special focus on reaching the poorest and most abandoned through palliative care centres, home-based health care, stroke rehabilitation, psychiatric rehabilitation, and related services.
Through its Social Action Ministry, the Province reaches out to the peripheries by organizing awareness programmes on human trafficking, counselling services, slum interventions, disaster relief initiatives, and other outreach programmes.
The sisters are also actively engaged in Youth Ministry, accompanying and guiding young people in collaboration with parishes and dioceses, helping them grow in faith, values, and leadership.
In the year 2015, a new offshoot of the Province emerged as the South–East India Delegation of St. Josephine Bakhita, comprising 50 sisters.
