The Charism of the Canossian Daughters of Charity calls us to live a Christian and consecrated life through the fullness of apostolic action, responding with compassion, courage and creativity to the signs of the times. As women of the Word and servants of the poor, we seek to encounter Christ in every person, especially those who are vulnerable, marginalized and deprived of their rights and dignity. Rooted in the Gospel and inspired by our Charism, our socio-pastoral ministry is a dynamic expression of solidarity, collaboration and service. We remain open to the new, willing to transform what is outdated and committed to reaching the peripheries of society, so that every person may experience dignity, justice, hope and the possibility of a fuller life.
Our ministry focuses on empowering people and communities towards holistic development and a rights-based approach. We accompany women through skill-based training such as tailoring, beautician courses, financial literacy and digital literacy, enabling them to strengthen their livelihoods and develop sustainable income-generating opportunities. We assist individuals and families in accessing government welfare schemes and services, offer counselling and support to migrants, transgender persons and displaced communities, and facilitate employment opportunities for unemployed youth. Through the formation of Kishori Mandals and Bal Sansads (Children’s Parliaments), we nurture leadership, participation and awareness among young people and children. We are also committed to combating human trafficking through the four pillars of Prevention, Rescue, Rehabilitation and Reintegration, accompanying survivors with care, dignity and hope as they rebuild their lives.
Our socio-pastoral mission also stands alongside farmers and vulnerable communities, promoting farmers’ rights, sustainable and organic farming, vermicomposting and livelihood initiatives. We address issues of justice and human dignity through advocacy, legal-aid training and support for pro bono cases, seeking to strengthen people’s capacity to claim and protect their rights. Recognizing that meaningful transformation is possible through collective action, we actively build networks and collaborate with Church institute, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, government institutions and like-minded individuals and groups. In a spirit of collaboration, solidarity and shared responsibility, we strive to create pathways from vulnerability to empowerment, exclusion to participation, and injustice to dignity—remaining faithful to our Canossian Charism of loving and serving with a courageous heart, especially where the need is greatest.
