We, the Canossian Daughters of Charity – Province of St. Francis Xavier, India Centre, Mumbai, are part of the international congregation of the Servants of the Poor, founded by St. Magdalene of Canossa. Inspired by Christ Crucified, the Greatest Love, we are called to live in simplicity and to serve our brothers and sisters, especially the poor, the suffering, and the marginalized. Through education, evangelization, faith formation, and pastoral care of the sick, we continue the mission of love and charity entrusted to us by our Foundress.
Born into a noble family, Magdalene dedicated her life to serving her “beloved poor.” In 1808, she began her mission in Verona with a small group of companions. From this humble beginning, the Canossian family has spread across Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, and Australia, bringing hope, compassion, and the love of Christ to people across the world.
