Canossa Nivas, Raigad

This convent was established in 2031 in collaboration with Sarva Vikas Deep, Mangaon, with the aim of empowering the Katkari tribe by providing education, job opportunities, sustainable living, training and mobilization of the tribal community for their land, water, forest rights, participation in good governance, gender equality and promotion of good health. This Canossa Nivas community of three sisters is based in Mhasla Taluka, Raigad district. They arrived here in 2021. Ever since then they are engaged in the following:

1. Empowering Youth and women

2. Reducing dropout rate in the primary school

3. Strengthening local self-government and panchayat raj institutions

4. Collaborating with government and non-governmental organizations

5. Reducing incidence of child marriage.

6. Introducing tribal healthcare practices.

The tribals are able to build shelter for themselves through funds received. And a cultivation plan is provided providing them both sustenance and jobs. Job opportunities have increased and the celebration of togetherness has built unity, communitarian spirit among the tribes. The monthly training Programmes have helped them to take classes for the children.
