Shirlaiwadi – Lourdes Mata
The parish priest of Our lady of Lourdes Church, Shirlaiwadi was keen on having the Canossian working in his parish. Hence negotiations were initiated. A plot of land was donated and the building was set up. In 1993 it was blessed by Bishop Thomas Dabre and Sisters began their apostolate here.
It was always a joy to participate actively in the pastoral work as people are appreciative, generous and open. The Sisters teach catechism and prepare the children for the sacraments. First Friday devotions and Sunday school with Sisters involved was seen here for the first time. Youth camps, Bible study, faith formation seminars, animating women’s sodality, summer club are regularly conducted. A dedicated group of lay Canossians are dedicated, collaborating, in the pastoral field.
The formation of Postulants took place here in the year 2000.
In 2010 the sisters were requested to teach in St. James Trusteee English medium school. A Sister acting as headmistress gave proper direction and brought up its moral and academic standard. Sisters continue this noble work of education.
