Manickpur – Nirmalamata Convent
The Sisters arrived Manickpur at the request of Fr. Nubiola S.J, to take up the girl’s section of St. Xavier’s parish school. In 1967 Nirmalamata school was opened exclusively for the girls. Gradually it became one of the best Marathi schools under the leadership of Sr. Nita Fernandes. Later the local people wanted an English medium school so it was started in 2001 with many students on roll. Soon the need of a CBSC school arose. With painstaking effort the buildings were put up with the required infrastructure. It received recognition in 2026 and students receive the prized education that they are seeking.
The three high schools functioning here have contributed much for the development of the girls be it in the Marathi school (now serving generously many, including the Adivasi children in the area), or the English medium schools promising good jobs for their future. After their formation the students give their best to their family, the society and the church.
Sisters are also engaged in Socio pastoral activities which include animating Small Christian Communities, Catechesis in parish and school. Tailoring and Craft classes were also started for drop outs and marginalized helping them to earn their living. M. Tambellini’s efforts to construct the buildings, M. Ursula’s apostolate among alcoholics and M. Scremin’s pastoral work is etched in the grateful hearts of the people of Manickpur
The district of Vasai has the honor of giving 80 Canossians to the Institute, several of them serving in other continents.
